About Our Farm
Founded in spring 2022, Rocky Branch Farm is a one acre no-till vegetable farm nestled in the hills of Lisbon, New Hampshire. We grow over 50 varieties of vegetables, herbs and cut flowers that we hope will brighten your kitchen and bring joy to your table.
Sustainably grown food is our passion and our mission. Our shared love of growing, cooking, and eating is what brought us together. Food and farming brings us joy, a sense of purpose, and connects us to our home. We look forward to sharing it with you!
MEET THE FARMERS
Hi! Hello! Our names are Alex Libenson and Rhianna Zadravec and we met in 2018 while studying sustainable food and farming at the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMass, Amherst. After college, we drove out west to work as farm hands and pursue our love of the outdoors. We lived out of our car and spent our days rock climbing desert towers, alpine climbing in the high peaks, and camping at backcountry lakes. But nowhere felt like home like New England. We found land for lease in Lisbon, NH, and made the move back east to pursue our dream of owning our own farm. We spent all our money on equipment, lived in a barn, and adopted a puppy. It was mayhem, but soon enough we were up and running and doing what we love most – growing food and enjoying quality time in the outdoors.
Practices & Impact
At Rocky Branch Farm we perform all planting, cultivation, and harvest, using hand tools & without conventional tillage. We believe strongly that no-till growing is best for soil biology and produces more nutritious and delicious food.
We do not hold a USDA Organic Certification because this label does not fully capture what we are trying to accomplish. Not only do we grow using organic practices, we implement systems that build and improve soil with each season. Deep composting, mulching, cover cropping, interplanting, and rapid crop rotation using silage tarps are some key techniques that work well on our farm. These practices mimic the soil building processes found in the forest, and have a regenerative effect on the soil. An investment in the soil is an investment in our future.
